SUMMARY:Fall Grand Festival
DESCRIPTION:Every spring and fall\, all members congregate at the Sacramento Spiritual Center to celebrate the Grand Festival\, during which they express their appreciation to the Universal Life Force and to the guardian spirits that are dedicated on the holy grounds. The public is welcome to join in the celebration and participate in the activities. \nA unique aspect of these festivals is the Saito Goma fire ceremony\, an ancient Buddhist tradition\, which is performed to evoke the power of the Fudo guardian for its protection and guidance in our lives\, the salvation of unrested souls and world peace. During the ceremony\, which is performed before the stone statue of Fudo\, participants burn plaques expressing appreciation for various aspects of their lives.

SUMMARY:Seven-Five-Three Festival
DESCRIPTION:In November\, the Los Angeles Gedatsu Church will observe the Seven-Five-Three (or Shichi-Go-San) Festival\, the traditional Japanese ritual that celebrates the well-being and healthy futures of children. The festival is open to the community\, and all children\, who have reached the ages of seven\, five and three years\, are welcome to participate with their families. \nIn the Japanese tradition\, the Gedatsu Church observes this auspicious occasion with a special prayer before the Ujigami local guardian shrine\, offering thanks for the children’s healthy and safe development. Each child is given a colorfully decorated bag containing the traditional chitose ame (literally meaning “a thousand years”) candy in appreciation for the child’s vitality and long life.  Following the ceremony\, lunch will be served for attending families. \nApplications forms for participation in the festival are available at the Los Angeles Church office. \n
